Moorpark is a beautiful suburban community just North of the Conejo Valley off the 23 and 118 freeways. The 118 is also known as Los Angeles Avenue. This is where the majority of shops, restaurants and businesses are located.

 

Located about 45 minutes to Santa Barbara and an hour to Los Angeles, Moorpark is in a wonderful location. The city has its own train station with Amtrak and Metrolink trains allowing for commuters to work and easy travel for vacation.

 

Moorpark was founded in 1900 when the application for the Moorpark Post Office was approved. The townsite was owned by Robert & Madeline Poindexter. Many people believe that the town of Moorpark was named after the Moorpark apricot, which used to grow in the area. Another theory is that when Southern Pacific Railroad was surveying the land in the 19th century, someone said that the area looked like the Scottish Moors. It was incorporated as a city in 1983. The population is approximately 36,000.

 

Moorpark has very comfortable year-round temperatures.

 

Moopark was one of the first cities to run off commercial nuclear power in the entire world. The FBI has ranked Moorpark as one of the safest California cities. SafeWise ranked Moorpark #8 on its list of safest cities in California.

 

Moorpark schools rank highly on www.GreatSchools.org. Moorpark College is a junior college which opened in 1967. It is one of the few colleges that feature an Exotic Animal Training and Management Program.

 

There are many Moorpark parks. Moorpark has 20 parks with a variety of amenities including picnic pavilions, ball fields, soccer fields and tennis courts.

 

Moorpark Country Club has a wonderful golf course and is surrounded by some of the most gorgeous homes in the area Country Club Estates. Rustic Canyon Golf Club is another popular golf course.

 

PennyMac Loan Services is the largest employer in Moorpark with over 1000 employees. Other top employers are Moorpark School District and College, Benchmark Electronics, Pentair Water Pool & Spa and Muranaka Farm.

 

Some of the annual events in Moorpark are Country Days, American Civil War battle reenactments, Apricot Festival and the July 3rd fireworks.

 

Some favorite restaurants in Moorpark are Café Firenze which was opened by Chef Fabio Viviani (contestant on the television show “Top Chef”), Wood Ranch BBQ and an amazing dessert shop called Carrara Pastries.

 

“Old Town Moorpark” is the area surrounding High Street which has various businesses, restaurants and a performing arts center called “High Street Arts Center” where many plays are performed.

 

Some fun places to hang out in the evenings are Enegren Brewing Company and McGregor’s Craft Beer and Wine.
