Newbury Park is a beautiful suburban community that is part of Thousand Oaks. It is located off the 101 freeway just before you drive North down the Conejo Grade into Camarillo. Located about 40 minutes from Santa Barbara and an hour to Los Angeles, Newbury Park is in a wonderful location. It’s only a 10 minute drive to the airport and train station in Camarillo.
Newbury Park was founded in 1875 and named after Egbert Starr Newbury who was the first postmaster in the Conejo Valley.It has a population of about 40,000 which continues to increase due to the biotechnology firms. It is actually part of the City of Thousand Oaks. Newbury Park was part of a master-planned community by the Janss Investment Company.
Newbury Park has very comfortable year-round temperatures although sometimes windy. In fact the largest master-planned neighborhood called Dos Vientos means “2 winds”.
It was ranked as one of the “Top 100 Places to Live” by Money Magazine.
Newbury Park schools rank highly on www.GreatSchools.org. Sycamore Canyon Elementary School is highly-desirable with it’s Kindergarten through 8th grade. Newbury Park High School has a block schedule that seems to work well for many students. People often move to Newbury Park because of the excellent schools.
There are many Conejo Valley parks in which soccer, baseball, basketball, water polo, swimming, softball, lacrosse and football are played. Many people come to Newbury Park for the many beautiful hiking/biking trails near Boney Mountain, MB2 Raceway Indoor Go Kart Facility, MVP Indoor Batting Cages and Stagecoach Inn Museum.
Amgen has its headquarters in Newbury Park, and is the world’s largest biotech company as well as the largest employer in the Conejo Valley. Founded in 1980, Amgen now employs nearly 7,000, and has attracted hundreds of scientists to the Newbury Park area. Other top employers in the area are Bank of America, Cal Lutheran University, Guitar Center, Sage Publications, Los Robles Medical Center, Cheesecake Factory, and Skyworks Solutions.
Some of the annual events in Newbury Park are the Mud Run, Annual Pioneer Jamboree and Arts & Crafts Festivals.

People travel from many places to shop at the Oaks Mall which is located just minutes from Newbury Park. It has many stores including Macy’s, Nordstrom, J.C. Penney & Dick’s Sporting Goods along with many smaller stores and plenty of restaurants.
